'A guest should eat what they are given': Guy gets even with Karen mother-in-law after 10 years, hosts dinner with food she can't eat

When Karens put negative energy out into the universe, they are bound to get that same energy in return. Here, we have a Karen who purposely disregarded her son-in-law's dietary issues and served a Christmas dinner with nothing for him to eat. He never forgot that feeling and it wasn't until a decade later when he finally got some payback. Sure, it's polite for a guest to eat what is served to them, but in this instance, these were known health issues that the Redditor made sure his monster-in-law was aware of before the event. Most of the time, it's worth giving people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case, Karen's refusal to be more inclusive was deliberate.

    Sit down for dinner and there is absolutely nothing I can eat. Not just won't eat because I don't like it, but all foods that give me serious GI distress. Her attitude was that a guest should just eat what they are given.

    I pointed out to wife that when she comes to my parents house for dinner my parents go out of their way to make sure they make something she will eat. My wife just doesn't like any Red meat. Not can't eat it, but just doesn't. My parents always make sure there is another option for her.

    Well last night she came over, wife was at work until after dinner so I purposely made something my MIL hated. My daughters favorite meal is sirloin steak, so I got to look like the doting father. Then I asked MIL if she wanted some. She hates sirloin steak so she didn't eat it. I politely said "oh you should have told me you didn't eat steak" Revenge in this case was a dish served warm.

You missed the best opportunity to make her literally eat her own words! Maybe next time you will remember.     The next time my MIL pulled a stunt like that (assuming I ever went back there to eat again), I'd have stood up, gathered the kids and walked out the door. Depending on the wife's demeanor, she could stay there as well. And damned if MIL would ever set at my table for a meal again.

    The other thing I'd say is that 10 years leaves a LOT of room for amends and things to be changed. If you haven't addressed the global problem (not just that particular meal) in that amount of time, some of the blame lies with you. 269 Reply Share

    Mental Vacation - 2 days ago a guest should just eat what they are given. What? I was raised that as a hostess it is my role to ensure an invited guests comfort is a priority. Even most uninvited guests to a degree. Is that not the norm? I've seen so many attitudes like this and it confuses me.
